Your Doula
Hello and welcome, my name is Alayah Jackson, a certified doula through DONA, and I am honored to support families as they navigate the rewarding yet challenging journey of early parenthood. My passion for this work began when my older sister had her first child. As she faced the transition into motherhood, she turned to me for support. It was in those early days of helping her care for her baby that I also helped her discover new strengths in herself. This experience ignited my desire to assist other families on their own postpartum journeys.
I graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Sociology, where I also studied Conflict Management and Health & Society. My academic background has equipped me with valuable tools to understand family dynamics, communicate effectively, and approach each unique situation with empathy and care.
Driven by my personal experience and education, I pursued certification as a postpartum doula through DONA International. Since then, I have had the privilege of supporting many families through their transitions, offering guidance, comfort, and emotional support during a time that can feel both joyful and overwhelming.
As your postpartum doula, my goal is to help you feel confident in your new role as a parent and to provide the support you need as you recover and adjust. I offer practical assistance with newborn care, emotional reassurance, and a listening ear, all while honoring your unique journey. It’s my mission to empower you, support your well-being, and help you thrive during this special time.
Thank you for considering me to be a part of your postpartum experience—I look forward to working with you and your family!

FAQs
-
The main difference between a baby nurse (also known as a newborn care specialist) lies in who they primarily support, and what kind of care they provide. A postpartum doula takes a holistic approach and focuses on the whole family, especially the birthing parent. A baby nurse takes a more structure and task-based approach, focusing on hands on newborn care.
-
Absolutely! I have had experience working with newborn twins who were also premature. I also have had experience working with newborns who have older siblings very close in age.
-
Someone should ideally book a postpartum doula during their second trimester or during the early part of their third trimester — around 20-32 weeks. This will allow the time to meet, interview, and build rapport with the right doula. Early booking will makes time for a prenatal visit, where you can go over a postpartum plan and expectations.

Most families use a postpartum doulas for a few weeks to a few months. This is dependent on their needs, budget, and support system.
